Inside vs outside mount — which edge matters

Mount type is as important as fabric. It decides whether your shade reads as a flush architectural inset or a full cover over the opening.

Inside mount

The shade sits within the frame and runs glass edge to edge in our preview. You need adequate depth for the cassette or brackets, and you order on the smallest of three widths.

Outside mount

The shade covers the window edge to edge — including trim — which helps hide light lines and works when depth is shallow or frames are irregular.

• Choose inside for clean modern reveals and deep frames.
• Choose outside for maximum coverage, shallow recesses, or imperfect squares.
